Brief Recap - Week 5

Visual analysis (n) is the in-depth examination of the formal aspects, which are the visual components that collectively make up the shape and qualities of the artwork under consideration. Line, colors (light and tone), scale, composition, and space, medium, techniques, size of the artwork, and function are the essential components that must be accounted for while conducting a visual study of an artwork.

Observation: Researching, that then requires the capacity for visualisation and the decision of a subject that'd best capture individual's interest and stimulate artistic results.

Analysis: The process of analysing a piece of artwork is to identify the artist's intended message and how the artist imply, the significance of the works, and their influences on the laws, art, culture, and social awareness of the time are also looked at.

Interpretation:
- In addition to observations, descriptions, and analyses of the work, facts pertaining to the design work are combined.
- Research may turn up credible background and context.
- What do the idea and the essential element behind its production mean?

Week 5's assignment required us to select a design project related to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (UNSDG). For this assignment, students must evaluate, research, document, and analyse a piece of design (such as a billboard, television commercial, movie clip, or other design-related artwork) of their choice while applying design principles into the piece.

Reasons of choice

Selectivity factors. I chose the topic "peace, justice, and good institutions" for my assignment, which required us to adhere to issues based on the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (UNSDG). People are still working for justice and eliminating inequalities, injustice, and such, are commonly found even from then until now. Generations to generations.

For instance, TRIGGER WARNING!! The victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, gender, race, and body types are just a few examples. Can these issues signify peace while they are still battling for them all? Good institution? Obviously not, if such a problem still exists. Hence, I want to convey each of them separately in this design and imply them all.

Visual Analysis

fig 1 & fig 2 balance

Observation: This design emphasises the peace and unity symbolised by the dove and the hands, which unify all races. It also employs simple shapes and a light background to draw attention to the essential message—that we are all people who fight for peace and justice—which is that we are all one human family.

Analysis: The balance principle is implied in the artwork above. In addition to the wording, other elements that contribute to the composition's sense of balance include the visual elements on the composition's left and right sides that share the same shape and placement, as well as the background composition, which is made up of the same elements and has a similar shape and placement.

Interpretation: This artwork was created by Liza Donovan for a poster advocating the equality for women. The name of this poster is, "hear our voice," conveys the message in the form of a pledge. “My work will not end at the ballot box. In the #First100Hours and #First100days, I will stand with women of color leadership. I will stand with women who are leading solutions that support a vision for Black lives, an end to violence against women and girls, power to make decisions about our bodies, health and reproduction, common sense immigration reform and an end to Islamaphobia. I pledge to take action to pursue a democracy and economy where we all have an equal say, and an equal chance.”

Since this illustration already conveys enough about unity, race, and justice, and peace as demonstrated by the dove, which stands for peace, and the use of colour in the hands, which declare the unity of racial backgrounds, in my opinion, has a significant impact on those who need justice and also reflects well on my topics, "peace, justice, and good institutions." This was one of my references because of that.

Design Process

I was inspired to create this piece by

together with the hands and doves, which, as I've mentioned, signify peace and unity. In my observation this

visual reference of mine yearns for light and hope. and the butterfly, happiness (freedom).

Idea exploration & Progress:

fig 4

I started by picking a background that is contrasted yet still feels bright. I then added a different colour to demonstrate that we have a wide - range of races. Next I added a woman with scales and a dove as symbols of justice and peace. Finally, And after that I added something like a laser beam to emphasise it. Thus, I use the design principles of contrast and balance in my design.

Final outcome:

fig 5

I chose such a lively background colour for my design because, in my opinion, the lack of justice, peace, and strong institutions makes the world seem uninspiring. dark. In addition, is that they also yearn for a world that is bright in the sense of hope to overcome this issue. Also, I portrayed the hands as if they were reaching for something, which stands for peace, justice which leads to good institutions. The woman in the middle appears to be holding balanced scales, yet her expression belies the existence of justice in this world. The dove that surrounds her also symbolises hands reaching out for peace. It reflects the entire purpose of my design.

Feedback

Regarding the feedback, I received some really positive comments from Dr. Charles Sharma, who stated his thoughts saying that he really like it and instructed me to go into more detail about it on this blog.

Reflection

So, I learned in this final project that the world can break apart due to severe issues
like these and others. This visual examination also allows me to become conscious of these problems and not just draw without purpose but also to convey messages.
