Project 2B: Mytiger Poster Design

In Project 2, we must apply our photographic imaging knowledge to produce a poster for the Maybank Foundation MyTIGER Values Art Competition 2023. Using Adobe Photoshop, we must design a poster that conveys the goals of the project while using the MyTIGER Values theme.

1. Topic Research: Life on Land

The UN's Sustainable Development Goal 15 i focused on is Life on Land. The goal aims to protect and restore terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt biodiversity loss. To achieve this goal, the UN has identified a number of targets, including conserving and restoring ecosystems, promoting sustainable forest management, combating desertification, and reducing degradation of natural habitats

2. Visual References

fig 1, 2, 3

The idea of endangered houses for animals on land is inspired by these visual references, thus I came up with these sketches.

3. Sketches

3. Digitalization

I used the forest as a background after first masking the tiger.

I then adjust the opacity, the filters, hue, brightness, and all the other adjustments to finalise the outcome.

4. Final Outcome

fig 8 Final Outcome

The poster is meant to show how climate change is affecting life on land, and particularly how it is endangering the survival of tigers. Wildfires are becoming more frequent and more intense due to climate change, and this is putting tigers and other animals at risk. The poster is a call to action, urging people to take steps to fight against climate change and protect the natural world.

Reflection

Experience: I had a great time working on this project because I am still a beginner and learning new skills is always exciting. I am also pleased with how my work turned out.

Observation: I've noticed that when I plan further, my compositions and designs improve. I recognise that by first practising and learning from the provided tutorials, I will be able to develop my own design and add my own elements on top of the skills I have just learned.

Findings: Composition and lighting, I discovered, are fairly essential elements in design.
