Task 3 : Type Exploration & Application
1. Proposal: In the first week of this task, we had to create presentation slides proposing ideas related to our interests or specializations.
fig 1 Proposal for ideation (29/10/2023)
The lecturer mentioned that the progress for the first idea might take up a lot of time. However, if you choose to proceed, ensure that the composition remains consistent. Based off the feedback received for the ideation proposal, I chose to stick with the idea but change the design.

For the edges, I'm trying to make them round, referring to the
traditional font on my proposal slide.

4. Application Process:
After reviewing various posters on a different platform, I decided to
choose this one and apply a gradient because the concept I'm aiming for
is contrast.

Here's my first attempt. I made two options, but I'm not really
satisfied with them. So, I decided to improve, and here's what I came
up with.

I picked the "Ace of Hearts" playing cards theme for the
application because I often play cards
with friends. The choice of "Ace of Hearts" relates to my name
starting with 'A,' and hearts match the gradient. I find the colors
pink, bright, and the heart symbol personally connects.
For the final application, I decided to apply for CD design simply
because I love listening to music, and this idea came to mind.

According to my research the angel number 222 indicates balance,
harmony and love which suits the theme i'm aiming for

Feedback
Week 14:
Week 13: MC
Week 12:
Specific Feedback: When placing your font in FontLab, ensure to
join paths, create outlines, and kern based on the files provided
in Teams.
Week 11:
Specific Feedback: Convert to FontLab.
Week 10:
General Feedback: Place the uppercase and lowercase side by side.
Week 9:
Specific Feedback: For the first idea, it might consume a lot of
your time, but if you decide to continue, make sure the composition
is consistent. For this idea, it's okay to mix thin and thick
compositions into the font, but ensure it's not too thin and still
visible.
Week 8:

Reflection
Experiece: My font is actually quite simple, so
constructing it was a straightforward process. However, the part
I struggled with the most was that my FontLab was always
glitching, and I don't know why. It tested my patience so much
because there was an error I had to redo over and over again.
But dspite the mental strain, Overall, I finally understood how
to create and apply the font.
Observation: For my observation, I learned that we
have to be very focused on the consistency, width, length, and
sizes of the font, especially punctuation. Punctuation marks
had different sizes and positions compared to letters, so I
had to be very detailed about that. Additionally, I learned
that color enhances the visual appearance of our type
application.
Findings: Conducting research on our type application is essential as
it greatly making the design process easier.
Further Reading
When it comes to making fonts, focusing on different components,
such as the baseline, x-height, and serifs, is crucial. The baseline
sets the foundation for the characters, while the x-height
determines the overall height and readability of the typeface.
Serifs, if present, can add a touch of elegance and enhance
legibility. Other components, like ascenders and descenders, affect
the vertical proportions of the letters. By paying attention to
these elements, font designers can create visually pleasing and
well-balanced typefaces that are easy to read and convey the desired
message effectively.
